San Antonio Spurs @ Memphis Grizzlies 9PM (ET) ESPN

(Spurs Lead Series 3-0)

chi-spurs-grizzlies-nba-playoffs-20130525-001Game 4 in Memphis, could mean the end to a great run for the Grizz unless they step up and figure out the Spurs defense. San Antonio has been the enforcer in this series finding ways to win the game at all costs for one more shot at the promise land. The key to tonight’s game is foul shooting and rebounding. I feel Memphis can control this game with Randolph and Gasol, limit turnovers, and get back into this series. If not, then this game could get ugly quickly.

San Antonio Spurs @ Memphis Grizzlies 9PM (ET) ESPN

(Spurs Lead Series 2-0)

Manu Ginobili, Darrell ArthurAfter two solid performances by San Antonio in games1 and 2, they head on the road to a hostile Memphis crowd. Although no team has won back to back series being down 0-2, Memphis looks for redemption tonight at home. Also, in this series the home team has won matchup 85% of the time dating back the past 4 season playing each other. If San Antonio wants to take a commanding 3-0 lead they will need to ride Parker and Duncan to the finish line with defense and down low control. Although, Memphis is home and it seems like and easy win due to the stat above, the last game was won by a margin of 4. If this holds true in this game ill take the dog in this one.

Memphis Grizzlies @ San Antonio Spurs 9PM (ET) ESPN

(Spurs Lead Series 1-0)

8-memphis-grizzlies-san-antonio-spurs-2011-biggest-nba-playoff-upsetsIn game 1, Memphis was out matched and flat out played by San Antonio. Although the Grizz shot 43% percent from the field, there top scorer/ playmaker Zach Randolph shot a abysmal 1 of 8 which really hurt Memphis late in this game. The Spurs stars played a typical in your face smash mouth game making 14 3-pointers and holding Memphis’s other big threats, Gasol and Conley, to mediocre nights. Until one of these teams can break the home win streaks they have against one another this season, I see the same outcome in this one.

Memphis Grizzlies @ San Antonio Spurs 3.30PM (ET) ABC

130517235113-duncan-gasol-single-image-cutGame 1 at San Antonio should be a very hard noised blue collar series. Both teams have good defenses and know how to make adjustments throughout the game which is crucial in the playoffs. This series, and today’s game in particular, should come down to the low post game and guard play. In the regular season the home team has won the game and I don’t see that changing in this one. Parker and Ginobili will take over this game and seal it for the Spurs.

Spurs -4.5

Memphis Grizzlies’ Locker Room

Defense has been this team’s calling all season long. After shipping Rudy Gay to the Raptors, the Grizzlies have tightened up their defensive intensity with Tayshaun Prince and Ed Davis’s presence. Mike Conley has exceeded expectations and has been the leader of this Memphis team, orchestrating the offense with veteran  Prince, defensive specialist Tony Allen and the dynamic duo of Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph protecting the paint.  This team ranked first during the regular season with only 89.3 points per game allowed. Memphis’ front court will be a major threat to the smaller San Antonio team, especially with the playoffs when teams play every other day. Age has shown on the Spurs big three of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan at several key moments but the experience proved too much for the Lakers and Warriors to handle. That experience would be negated in this matchup against the Grizzlies as everyone on this Memphis squad has had their share of experience in the playoffs.

San Antonio Spurs’ Locker Room

Age HAS been a factor all along this season but coach Gregg Popovich has done an excellent job as he always has of managing the playing time of each of his superstars. Even though Tim Duncan has played exceptionally well this season, averaging his highest free-throw percentage in his career, we can see in couple games with the Lakers and the Warriors that Duncan has definitely showed signs of age as well.  Same with Ginobili and Parker at times, especially during the over time games against the Warriors. The Spurs ranked a mediocre 11th in points allowed during the regular season but have been the best at sharing the ball with their 25.1 assists per game, which ranks number one. Defense is still the key component in Popovich’s philosophy. You defend well and you share the ball well. That has clearly proven with his multiple championships and finals appearances. Aside from the big three. The Spurs have multiple 3-point threats in Danny Green, Gary Neal, Kawhi Leonard and Matt Bonner and they have not played their “Insurance Policy” in Tracy McGrady, who we all know can score 15 points in 45 seconds. The Spurs know  what it takes to win.

Final Predictions

I don’t see either team winning on the road here, or at least not until game 7, where I think the fatigue just kicks in and age really starts to show a factor in the Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies win GAME 7 in San Antonio and move on to the NBA FINALS. Who doesn’t like rooting for the underdog?

Memphis Grizzlies in 7

The Betting Corner: NBA Playoffs May 15, 2013

Chicago @ Miami 7PM (ET) TNT

(Miami 3-1 Chicago Series)

130508203717-0508-james-miller.main-video-player

Tonight’s game is an elimination game for the bulls in one of the most physical series I have seen in a while since the Pacers Knicks rivalry back in the 90’s. This series from a betters standpoint has been very hard to judge because on any given night the heat can play lights out and Vegas knows this. Therefore, Vegas is tempting the dog better with a high spread. However, this is the Heat’s chance to bury the Bulls at home and I don’t see them letting off the gas in this one.

Miami -14

Memphis @ OKC 9.30PM (ET) TNT

(Memphis 3-1 OKC Series)

hi-res-6992420_crop_650x440

Another elimination game on the slot tonight with a series lead of 3-1 in favor of Memphis. Memphis has flat out controlled this series through defense and utilizing on OKC mistakes. If OKC can limit turnovers tonight and utilize there home court advantage as we are accustomed to, I see Durant and co. giving everything they got in this one and covering the -4.

OKC -4
