The Betting Corner: NBA Finals Game 7 Jun 20, 2013

San Antonio Spurs @ Miami Heat 9PM (ET) ABC

(Series Tied 3-3)

San-Antonio-Spurs-VS-Miami-Heat-Wallpaper-HD-2013As a sports fan, today is the day that we all look forward to: a winner take all, Game 7 finals game. Nothing is more thrilling, exciting, nerve-wracking, and heart clenching than the last game of the season for all the marbles. At the end of today, we will have a NBA Champion.

After one of the best playoff games in recent history, it is now or never for the aging Spurs and the Heat. Tim Duncan dominated the first half of Game Six with 25 points but was held to just 5 in the third quarter by a stingy Miami defense. Lebron James played like a man possessed in the fourth quarter and overtime.

In today’s matchup, the major factor will be the coaches. Let’s be honest and admit that in the NBA coaches aren’t as important than in other sports- except for today. Spoelstra and Popovich have been in a chess match all series long. With a majority of the population questioning Popovich’s decision making in the fourth quarter, it is now or never for the Spurs.

Miami must be able to get points from Wade and the role players. Bosh, who has taken a beating all playoff long, must play even better than he did last game. Lebron James will not be stopped and will continue to dominant the game.

For the Spurs, Manu Ginobili is the key. After being inserted into the starting lineup for Game 5, Ginobili flat out balled. In Game 6, he was the worst player on the court posting a -21 +/- and finishing with 8 turnovers.

NBA Finals Game 7 Prediction: Spurs +6

Tim-Duncan-Spurs-Championship-Banners-1920x1200-Wallpaper-BasketWallpapers.com-All good things come to an end and the San Antonio Spurs understand that, so Gregg Popovich and company has put on what looks to be a last run at the NBA title once again and this time they meet up with the defending champions Miami Heat.

San Antonio Spurs’ road to the 2013 NBA Finals

The San Antonio Spurs made it look easy, sweeping the Lakers, tangoed with the Warriors and swept the Grizzlies. This has to look promising if you are a Spurs fan because heading into the Finals, your big three is healthy, your bench is solid and everyone is on the same page and well rested. The Spurs are the New England Patriots of the NBA, they have been a standard in the NBA for the last decade. Both coaches Gregg Popovich and Bill Belichick have a dark sense of humor and they don’t talk a lot. They do what they do best, WIN. The Spurs are also an amazing 4 out of 4 in the NBA finals coming away away with a trophy every time they have been there.

San Antonio Spurs Locker Room

The big three is healthy, Tim Duncan is playing like he was in 1999, Tony Parker just gets better every year and Manu Ginobili? Well…he’s Manu, enough said. Danny Green has showed why he deserves to be in the starting lineup, he has played stellar defense, spread the floor with his threes and facilitated at times. Kawhi Leonard has took over the defensive specialist position that Bruce Bowen vacated a couple of years ago. The Spurs run a 10-deep roster throughout the playoffs with Bonner, Diaw, Neal, Joseph and Ginobili. Blair and McGrady have seen limited playing time  and we know how dominant those two are if they are inserted into the game.

Why the Spurs can win

Experience, defense and selflessness. The San Antonio Spurs have all the ingredients to win another championship. They have the 11-plus years of experience from each of the big three. They have defensive intensity which doesn’t show on the stat sheet and they are unselfish. They share the ball more than other team in the NBA, and extra passes get your open shots and break down any defense. The Spurs just have to play Spurs basketball and they can win their fifth championship in franchise history.

Key Players to watch-Kawhi Leonard and Matt Bonner

Presentation1 ___________________________________________________________________________

lebron-james-2012-nba-champion-trophyNot 1, not 2, not 3, not 4….not 8…At least he finally got one and now he shoots for two. LeBron James got the monkey off his back last season when he finally won his first NBA championship and has escalated his game to a whole new level with the left-handed hook shot and some low-post moves added to his arsenal.LeBron looks to lead the Heat to their third NBA championship in franchise history.

Miami Heat’s road to the 2013 NBA Finals

The Miami Heat breezed through the first and second round of the playoffs but were challenged in the Eastern Conference finals against the Indiana Pacers who needed a signature 99-76 blow out victory at home in Game 7 . Since signing Chris “The Birdman” Anderson, their defensive intensity has increased greatly in addition to his ridiculous field-goal percentage.

Miami Heat Locker Room

Miami does not have any major injuries other than Dwyane Wade, who has had back and leg issues all season and just seem to not be the old Dwyane Wade we’ve been accustomed to seeing. Mike Miller and Shane Battier seem to be healthy. The Heat really just needs Ray Allen to be consistent on a nightly basis to stretch the floor and be a facilitator. LeBron can score at will and so can  Wade, they just need some additional run support and that might be a hard thing to do against the San Antonio Spurs

Why the Heat can win

L.E.B.R.O.N J.A.M.E.S. that name is the reason why they won last year and will be key to winning this year. Miami runs on James, but in order for them to defeat the Spurs, they will need Wade and Bosh along with the bench to step up and take away the double and triple teams from LeBron. Ray Allen and company have been a disaster during the Pacers series from beyond the arc but finally showed some good signs in Games 6 and 7. The Heat  also have a similar defensive specialist in Shane Battier who has been known to shut down great players, and we’ll look to see Battier match up with Ginobili or Parker and force them to take tough shots off the pick and roll.

Key players to watch-Shane Battier and Ray Allen

7397300After many highs and lows the readers and I have experienced in this series, tonight‘s game is for all the marbles. The key for the Heat tonight is getting production from someone other than Lebron. If they get this, the Pacers will have trouble keeping this close. For the Pacers, as its been the whole series, keep the defensive pressure up and play consistent and confidently. If they do this they will take the throne of the new top dog of the East. From a Vegas standpoint, I believe this game will be  closer than 7 and until the Heat can show me there big 3 is truly still a “big 3” all-star lineup, I can’t give the points.

The Betting Corner: NBA Playoffs Jun 1, 2013

Miami Heat @Indiana Pacers 8.30PM (ET) TNT

(Miami lead Series 3-2)

980857_10151550982518463_548927911_oAfter a back and forth first half in game 5, the Heat made one of the best half time adjustments defensively I’ve seen this postseason. With that, the Heat held the Pacers to 35 points and taking the 3-2 series lead. Now that the series has shifted back to Indiana, the Heat have to find a way to close out the Pacers at home, where they have struggled most of this series. However, this isn’t any ordinary game for the Heat. This is a ticket to the NBA finals on the line. In close out games (both home and away) the Heat are a perfect 6-0 when leading the series. If the Pacers want to take this series to a game 7, they need to limit turnovers and figure out Lebron’s “Robin” early in this game otherwise we could see this get out of hand early. For the Heat, if they can continue to irritate Hibbert with the double team as well as limit Indiana to one shot per possession, they will force the rest of the Pacer team to play a perfect game to beat them. Chris Anderson has been ruled out due to a suspension and the Pacers need to take advantage pounding the ball into the low post playing from inside out. Ultimately this game is going to come down to which team hungrier. With stat above and a low spread, I like the Heat on the road to win the Eastern Conference once again.

(Series Tied 2-2)

30james-articleLargeAfter such a back and forth series, game 5 is will determine which team wants it more. Headed back to Miami, the Heat look to regain control on there home floor after some questionable calls in game 4 which, in my opinion, decided the outcome. The last four games have come down to who dominates in the low post on both sides of the ball. For the Heat to take game 5, they need to step up the defensive pressure, get more scoring production from the big 3 and “Rebound, Rebound, Rebound”. For the Pacers to take one on the road, they need to continue to be aggressive on the boards as they were in game 3 and keep Lebron and co from gaining momentum in this game. Although I expect the Heat to win this one, I’ve realized in this series the high spread favors dog.

The Betting Corner: NBA Playoffs May 28, 2013

Miami Heat @Indiana Pacers 8.30PM (ET) TNT

(Miami lead Series 2-1)

27east-1-articleLargeAfter scoring a franchise record 70 points in the first half, the Heat look to take over this series on the road. If Miami can continue to get production from role players as I stated in the last article on this series, there is no stopping them. The role players outshot the Pacers 28-16, which was the X factor in game 3. Not only was the bench dominate, but “Birdman” or Chris Anderson is a remarkable 15-15 shooting this series. The Pacers, on the other hand, look to protect home court where they have been solid winning 86% of the time this playoff stretch. If Indiana can slow down Miami’s new found post game then they have a solid chance to even the series tonight. Hibbert and West will need there guards to spread the floor for there play to prosper tonight. Ultimately whichever team can control the pace and turnover battle will take this one. However since the spread is low which makes me think Vegas wants Pacer action, Heat is the play.

George-Hill-and-Lance-Stephenson-have-to-step-up-in-Game-2.-Nathaniel-S.-Butler-NBA-Getty-ImagesAfter two intense games in Miami, the defending champs take to the road to Indiana, where the Pacers have been undefeated this postseason. If the heat want to take control back, their role players must get out of there shooting funks (Chalmers, Allen, and Battier). If they do get this production, the Heat will not only win, but cover.

Indiana on the other had, has manhandled the Heat on defense and has answered call when needed. If they can pull away in game 3, this series should be a dog fight from here on out. Ultimately, today’s game will come down to, as it has every game this series, turnovers. I feel after a close call at home in game 1 and a bad last minute in game 2, the Heat should be amped up for tonight’s game and steal one back on the road.

9d65c1d1d6004297a2048250088dc129-08da78f6fe074580985fab989d3e1053-3After a tight OT thriller in game 1, I see game 2 to have the real offensive flow to it. Although both teams defenses were solid in game 1, Spolestra always seems to know how to make great game 2 adjustments as he did last series against the bulls.  The pacers key to winning tonight is controlling the boards and not letting the game get out of hand to early with the home crowd. At the end of the day, the heat offense is to much for the pacers in this one and a potential lights out performance from a d wade.

Indiana Pacers @ Miami Heat 8.30PM (ET) TNT

nba_g_james_b1_576The day after Lebron’s hometown team the Cleveland Cavaliers, won the NBA draft lottery, Lebron’s current team, the Heat, look to take on the Pacers in a repeat showdown of last years eastern conference semifinals. Both of these teams look different from last years series. The Pacers seem to have a more mature team this go around led by Hibbert on defense and Hill, George, and West on the offense. The have put together some outstanding performances this season but the Heat are a team where they can make your best defensive performances look silly. If the pacers want to have a chance in this one, it’s to slow down the league MVP on both ends of the court. Tonight battle will be who can control the boards and win the turnover battle. Since the Heat are home and the home team is 4-1 ATS this season, heat is the play tonight.
